Allegedly, immigration officials in Ibadan attacked journalists

Reporters in Oyo State have accused immigration officials of physically attacking them.

Seun Falomo, a cinematographer for Galaxy Television, was reportedly attacked not long ago.

On Friday, only moments after an officer from the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) was taken into custody for attempting to apprehend immigration officials for traffic violations, the incident allegedly took place.

Our informants informed us that in response, the immigration officers detained the OYRTMA representative, stripped him of his clothing, and then confined him to their Zone F offices on Old Ife Road in Ibadan.

But the cops tried to cover up the incident by becoming violent with the reporters who were covering it.

Falomo and others were subjected to assaults and death threats throughout this time.

Falomo fought with the immigration agents who tried to take his camera.

They put Falomo on the ground and threatened him with a revolver. Members of the public and his coworkers came to his rescue.

According to our source, this comes only days after a journalist in the state was attacked by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Comrade Ademola Babalola, chairman of the Oyo state council and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), expressed concern about the occurrence.

In a brief statement released on Friday, Babalola urged journalists to exercise caution around security personnel who may be overly enthusiastic.

A moment ago, he read this, he explained. Coming just one week after one of us was abused by DSS, it is becoming very depressing.

Tomorrow morning, we will announce our stance. My coworkers are starting to get worried about this. Please, let us steer clear of these insane individuals.
