El Rufai: I seek no such office as godfather

Former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has stated that he has no desire to serve as a godfather to any of his successors.

During his Monday speech at a workshop in Borno State for senior government officials, he revealed this.

El-Rufai said that in the nearly year since he stepped down as governor, he has made just five trips to Kaduna.

The reason I stay out of the governor’s affairs in Kaduna is because I don’t want to play godfather; I think he should figure out how to handle the job on his own.

What we’re missing is strong leadership, which includes all the essential qualities of effective leadership.

To get things done, the leader should assemble competent workers.

No matter how competent a leader is, they are only as good as the people they surround themselves with; this is why the phrase goes, “no country gets better than the quality of his civil services.” He went on to remark that only God can accomplish all on his own.
