During their inspections, Victor Ikeji, chairman of the Umuahia North Local Government Area, and Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, commissioner of the Abia State Police, found a bicycle repair shop behind Okigwe park in Umuahia, as well as the abandoned Ohuhu motor park in the capital of Abia, which had allegedly transformed into a shack and a haven for drug dealers and criminals.

During his tour of the shantytowns with the Abia State Police Commissioner, the mayor voiced his intention to tear them down and replace them with a motor park and a market.

Ikeji complained that the transporters and vendors at Ishi-gate were to blame for the traffic jams and unsightliness in the heart of Umuahia city, and he wanted them to find a new location.

He insisted that improving the quality of life in Umuahia and the rest of Abia State is a priority for Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

The shanty was a notorious meeting place for drug dealers and criminals in the capital of Abia state, according to Abia State Police Commissioner Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who also spoke during the inspection.

He claimed that selling or otherwise making good use of the shanty would serve the state well.
